Transportation and Land Use CoalitionEducation Coordinator, Safe Routes to SchoolsBACKGROUNDThe Transportation and Land Use Coalition (TALC) is the lead organization in administering an Alameda County Safe Routes to Schools (SR2S) program, which began in the 2007-2008 school year. TALC will be partnering with the Alameda County Public Health Department and Cycles of Change to promote safe walking and biking to school to improve childrens health, safety, and mobility; strengthen communities, reduce automobile trips and improve air quality in school neighborhoods. A strong educational component includes teaching children the connection between transportation and the environment.
