The After School Academy is a well-developed after school program that serves 140 East Palo Alto students every day of the week. We are seeking volunteers to be in our K-5 classrooms (about 15-20 students per room) during the homework study time. Teachers are always in the room to supervise students - the role of volunteers is to sit down with students, usually working individually or in small groups, and help them do math and language problems, complete worksheets, and other homework activities. These kids are (usually!) very sweet and eager to learn, and love the individual attention that volunteers can provide. Our student population is 60% Hispanic, 30% African-American, and 10% Pacific Islander. This is a great opportunity to provide one-on-one help for kids who really need it. ... read more
