We are looking to fill one full-time or two part-time positions for duties of News Editor and/or Managing Editor for Sonoma County’s largest community newspaper. These positions will involve delegating tasks and stories as well as writing and coordinating news items. Ideally, we would like to find someone Web-saavy with a keen sense of urgency when it comes to breaking news. We want to have the story online as soon as it’s written.

These positions include copyediting and fact checking, photo selection, working with freelance as well as staff writers and photographers and writing duties. Photography skills are a plus as well. You will be an ambassador to the newspaper at events you’re covering and will meet interesting people. You will need to maintain a strong sense of integrity and always put the newspaper’s best interest first.

While other newspapers are on the decline, studies have shown community newspapers are on the rise. Ours is no exception. We are growing our staff and sales teams and expanding our paper.

Requirements:
Very strong attention to detail
Solid writing skills with previously published work
At least 3-5 years experience in a newspaper setting
Strict adherence to deadlines
Strong sense of integrity
Familiarity with AP (Associated Press) Style
Computer friendly, Web saavy
Degree in journalism or related field desirable
Familiarity with Rohnert Park/Cotati area
Strong sense of community

Duties:
Taking lead in presenting news ideas
Managing weekly meeting of news staff
Assigning stories to writers and photographers
Copyediting material for publication
Working with design team to improve Web site design
Multiple daily updates of news content online
Writing stories as needed for newspaper
