Overview:
Linden Lab is looking for a Software Release Engineer to help evolve and improve our deployment tools and processes. We're looking for someone with the technical depth to understand the complexities of the Second Life service and who is up for the challenge of helping deploy and monitor updates. We're looking for someone who will work with other Release Team members and Systems Engineering to help solve the challenge of reliably and predictably deploying software to thousands of servers.

This person will also assist with maintaining and evolving our source control repositories, working with developers to integrate changes from various source branches and communicate the status of changes to the engineering team, across the company and to the public. Experience with bug tracking systems, scripting and compiled languages, command line/shell environments, SQL, and Web technologies will greatly help a candidate excel in this role. The ideal candidate will approach problems in a forward-looking way, get satisfaction from removing roadblocks for others and enjoy working collaboratively.

Responsibilities:
* Work closely with developers, QA testers, project managers, release managers, systems and network engineers, and in-world support teams as projects move from the planning stages through final release and deploy into production.
* Responsible for the design and maintenance of deployment and monitoring tools.
* Track technical and/or communication dependencies between projects.
* Perform software deployments to Windows, Macintosh and Linux systems.
* Build and maintain automated systems for builds, tests, releases and deployments.
* Configure, support and maintain version control repositories, and provide support to users of those systems.
* Escalates issues in organized and productive way.
* Works with a widely distributed team.
* Manage and communication status of personal and project tasks in an open and transparent way.
* Contribute to improving the build, QA & release process through knowledge of available technology.
* Balance the need for innovation with the desire for stability and predictability.

Qualifications:
* Proven history of success in software development, build management or release engineering (3+ years)
* Self-critical and little need for direct management
* Ability to balance multiple tasks and schedules
* Excellent written and oral communication skills, attention to detail
* Experience with version control systems required
* Experience with software build systems required (Parabuild a plus)
* Experience with automation via scripts (UNIX shells, DOS batch, etc) required
* Experience with scripting languages (Python, Perl, etc) required
* Proficient in working in UNIX server environments
* Knowledge of C#, C, C++ and Python
* Experience with Debian packaging beneficial
* Experience with database use and administration (e.g. MySQL) beneficial
