Overview:
Linden Lab seeks a Payments Architect to guide development, outsourcing, and partnerships around payment system integration.

You have done payment integrations before. You know in detail how payment systems both domestic and international work. You know how to organize processes to find the sweet spot between chargebacks and insults. You know where recurring processing should live and why. You know SKU management, and financial reporting. You have an eye for SOX compliance and can recite the PCI DSS.

You will be a key team member in building a large-scale, distributed production system with leading-edge technologies impacting millions of Second Life residents. Reporting to the Engineering Director for Core Web Services, you would work closely with him, the CFO, product management, development and QA.

The role is based in San Francisco with occasional travel to Boston and to Brighton in the UK.

Responsibilities:
* Design and integrate next generation billing/ payment system
* Guide development efforts such that any internally-developed software meets industry standards including PCI DSS and government regulations including SOX
* Manage technical and integration relationships between Linden Lab and third party payment providers
* Define application boundaries and interfaces to increase encapsulation and appropriate modularization
* Assess Linden Lab's needs and the ongoing state of the payments industry to make recommendations for Linden Lab's continued growth in customer monetization
* Design systems for scalability and fault tolerance, in conjunction with System Infrastructure (operational) teams.
* Participating in an iterative development cycle with frequent releases.
* Collaborating with QA to create test plans, unit and integration tests.
* Working with both local and remote software developers and other staff.

Qualifications:
* 3+ years of business analysis or project management experience.
* 5+ years experience with payment processing systems with multiple integration projects, specifically processing virtual goods
* Thorough knowledge of general system architecture including bottlenecks, latency and security issues that may affect a payment system
* Heavy exposure to RESTful services, Python, PHP, Apache, MySQL and Linux
* Exposure to enterprise software like Salesforce, NetSuite and event processing systems like AMQP and StreamBase
* Demonstrated leadership and successful project execution on payment system integrations
* Exceptional interpersonal/communication skills
* Self-starter able to thrive in a multi-tasking, quick-moving, geographically distributed, cross-functional, distributed thinking environment
* Excellent sense of humor, or decent sense of humor and exceptional music library.

Education and Experience:
* Bachelor of Science, Computer Science and 4 - 6 years of experience, or equivalent.
