WEB CONTENT MANAGER

Immunization Branch


JOB SUMMARY:

Under the general direction of the Immunization Branch Chief, Assistant Branch
Chief and Information and Education Section Chief, and supervised by the Creative Director, the Web Content Manager is responsible for creating and overseeing content on multiple H1N1-related websites. Work closely with health educators, subject matter experts, and designers to coordinate content to ensure that it is accurate, accessible, timely, and caters to specific target audiences. Currently, this position is funded through September 30, 2010.

Reports To: Branch Chief
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday
Hours: 40 hours/week
Travel Required: 0-5%

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Essential Functions

• The incumbent will take a lead role in updating and maintaining multiple CDPH H1N1 websites. Write, edit, and proof content. Perform quality assurance checks. Enhance the timeliness and readiness of information. Monitor all content on Branch websites related to H1N1 to keep materials, reports, statistics, and links up-to-date. Archive content, as appropriate. Maintain consistent style, complying with American Disabilities Act and copyright laws. Consult with different Branch sections and I&E health educators to routinely solicit new content and ensure accuracy. Promptly position information on H1N1 websites as requested by Supervisor. Work with designers to maintain standards in look and feel and usability of websites.
• The incumbent will organize work groups to solicit input on websites from stakeholders and target audience. Develop and implement action plans based on feedback.

• The incumbent will assist in the building of new websites and expanding content on existing H1N1-related websites by creating and editing pages using Dreamweaver, CSS, PHP, java script, HTML, XHTML, Sharepoint, and content management systems, and html. Adjust information architecture and navigation as needed. Develop new online features (e.g. uploading of user content, online form submission, data collection and exportation.). Create plans for website development, expanding content to other venues such as Youtube, Myspace, and Wikipedia. Apply strategies to increase search engine rankings.
• The incumbent will serve as contact for Branch H1N1 websites. Provide technical support to website users. Assist users in finding website content. Work with vendors to resolve technical issues. Maintain files on servers and accounts for domain names and ISPs.
• The incumbent will collect and report website statistics and data collection. Collect feedback from website users up-to-date on internet trends, research web activity for various target audiences, and make recommendations to section teams based on findings.
• The incumbent will complete other professional duties that support the day-to-day operations of the I&E Section and the Branch as assigned. Collaborate with other Branch technical staff.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be technically savvy.
• Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
• Able to create content for a variety of audiences including low-literacy readers and allied health care professionals.
• Applicant must have the ability to understand basic statistics and epidemiologic data (graphs/charts) and summarize information for general audience readers. Knowledge in Dreamweaver, CSS, PHP, java script, HTML, XHTML and Photoshop is required.
• Desirable skills include: organized, adaptable to change in direction, and knowledge of viral marketing principles. Working knowledge of Sharepoint, Flash, Photoshop and design software.


Experience and Educational Requirements

Three years experience with website content development and or at a minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in related field.
