Consulting Services Engineer
Position Description:
General Purpose
As a member of the Consulting Services team provides technical leadership and takes ownership on project tasks including, but not limited to, requirements, design, and delivery of the application primarily using Qt software and embedded Linux based platforms as the development environment.
Main Responsibility Areas
Leads design, architecture and development efforts
Analyze Requirements & Functional Specifications and estimate level of effort
Present technical solutions to customers/prospects that are optimized
Develop system requirements and specifications
Provide support to the development organization and is the go to person for any technical help.
Interact with Sales during the bid phase
Expertise and work efforts focus primarily on securing customer success in using Qt Software products
Duties may be performed in-house or at customer's site
Operates under minimal supervision on projects usually involving single products or single platforms.
Travel occasionally to the client site
Needed Competencies and Skills:
Educational and other requirements:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or higher (not mandatory)
Preferably 5+ years of working on customer driven, services type of projects
Required skill sets:
Strong C++ experience with successful track record in developing C++ applications
Strong embedded Linux systems knowledge
Porting Qt or other UI frameworks or Operating Systems to Linux board products (ARM or MIPS based CPUs) is a plus
Experience in developing Qt drivers is a plus
Excellent Technical understanding of Qt Software Products (Qt, Qt for Embedded Linux, Qt tools).
Excellent Engineering Background.
Good communications, presentation, organizational and planning skills.
Good interpersonal skills to work as a team member and as a technical liaison with customers.
Excellent Technical understanding of Qt Software Products (Qt, Qt for Embedded Linux, Qt tools)
Desired skill sets:
Strong experience in Qt based development preferred
Experience in integrating UI frameworks (like Gtk, Clutter) with graphics libraries such as OpenGL, OpenGL ES or DirectFB on embedded Linux systems is a big plus
Experience with Qt/Webkit or Webkit a strong plus
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
Good oral and written communication in English
Moderate levels of stress may occur
Moderate (25%) of travel to customer sites is necessary
Regular conference calls and availability sometimes outside of local hours is necessary
Analyzes or proposes customers' project requirements
Performs software engineering as needed, per project
Performs Premium Support services (as defined in Qt Services portfolio)
Works closely with Sales, Consulting Services team members, and Engineering Resources to lead scoping activities such as work breakdown and estimations and contribute to Requirements Specifications, Architecture Design and other project documentation deliverables
Works closely with Sales, Consulting Services team members to produce accurate SOW documents.
Follow up on technical questions from prospects and customers develop technical responses to Requests for Proposal
Work with customers to study their technical software development problems, and identify and recommend ways in which Qt Softwares products can be used to solve these problems.
Works independently with little supervision
High collegial or consultant interaction.
