Help Desk Technician Level II
Desktop Hardware and Software Support:
- Monitor incoming emails and phone calls to the Help Desk; assign and complete work orders using Intuit’s Track-It! Help Desk Software.
- Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain desktops, laptops, thin clients, networked
printers, scanners, video cards, system boards, NICs, Wi-Fi cards, hubs, etc.
- Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain Windows operating systems:
Windows 2000 Pro, XP Pro, and Vista
- Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain Windows PC applications:
MS Office 2000/2003/2007 Pro, MS Outlook 2000/2003/2007
- Troubleshoot and resolve both hardware and software related PC problems.
- Resolve PC hardware issues: hard disk failures and replacements, hard disk data
recovery, memory upgrades, system imaging, security updates and service packs.
- Install CAT5 cabling, trace and activate network data ports on network switches.
- Work with vendors to obtain price quotes and warranty replacements.
- Assist and train staff in MS Office, specifically Outlook and Excel, and basic
PC/Network functions and the proper use of the company’s network resources.
- Document PC and network configuration, maintenance procedures, and PC inventory.
- Respond to the IT Help Desk Emergency support line after hours including weekends.
- Perform other help desk duties as needed.
Network Support:
- Active Directory: create and manage Windows NT logon accounts; manage global
security groups; assigning NTFS file and folder permissions.
- Create and manage user Email accounts and general mailboxes in Active Directory’s Exchange Management System.
- Configure and support email, printing, file sharing, and access to network resources.
- Provide users with first and second level technical support.
- Research and resolve issues concerning user network access.
- Data Migration: Transfer data from workstations to assigned network directories
(Outlook email, PST files, desktop data, bookmarks, etc.)
- Recover data from the server snapshots or from tape backups.
- Manage tape backup and weekly offsite storage rotation
- Perform morning and nightly checklist to verify proper function of network resources.
Requirements:
- Associates Degree required (or equivalent experience), preferably in Computer Science
or Information Systems.
- Knowledge of basic computer hardware, including printers, routers, wireless cards,
hubs, and switches
- Knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems TCP/IP, VPN, and Windows
networking required.
- Experience in diagnosing and troubleshooting computer systems, Windows
2000/XP/2003, and MS Office 2000/2003
- Minimum 3 years experience working in a Help Desk environment with installations
and technical support.
- Experience with Help Desk software, such as Track-IT and Surf Control.
- Knowledge of network administration functions.
- Knowledge of Windows Active Directory, Exchange, Antivirus, and Internet Explorer.
- Knowledge of Wi-Fi networking technologies, equipment, and connectivity.
- Strong verbal and written skills. Ability to communicate with technical and non-
technical associates, as well as senior management audiences.
- Occasional need to move computer equipment for installations, etc.
- Additional experience, ability to learn, and willingness to work in a fast paced
environment preferred.
- Will require 24x7 cell phone and Internet accessibility.
