Position Description
The Sr. Systems Administrator, Production Systems supports ServePaths customer-facing production systems and is a member of a team that operates a high-uptime 200+ node heterogeneous server farm and operational support to the virtualization operations group in support of the fast growing GoGrid cloud infrastructure service. This individual will also play a key role in the technical leadership and mentoring of a small team of System Administrators.
The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of direct hands-on experience operating a highly available heterogeneous server farm and production systems, and a minimum of 2 years experience acting in a team lead role driving technical innovation and automation in a systems operations group. This individual should have the technical depth and breadth to understand project details while maintaining an ability to think strategically to make decisions to meet company objectives. Rotating pager duty required as well as night/weekend work as required by a small, fast growing company.
We will be looking for a candidate with the following specific technical strengths and experience:
Linux systems operations architecture and setup
Virtualization technologies, Xen preferred
Deep uderstanding of low level server, Linux, and RAID architectures
Systems security
Systems monitoring and alerting strategies and implementation
Scripting and automation
Project management
Job Duties
Oversee the operation of the GoGrid node farm and the servers that support my.gogrid.com
Continually improve on security and patch management process for our production systems
Backup restore and disaster recovery strategies and implementation
Review and continually improve on systems monitoring and alerting of all critical systems components
Change management, rigorous adherence to change control procedures
Plan and coordinate systems maintenances with multiple internal groups to ensure minimal impact to internal and external customers
Write/review operational documentation and troubleshooting guidelines
Work closely with the internal Technical Support organization to ensure there is a quick turn around on escalated support tickets and that communication and process channels between Support and Systems are open and smooth.
Collaborate with internal Software Engineering, Networking, and Product Management groups on new product offerings and enhancements to existing products.
Maintain, Prioritize, and justify list of projects
Help define scope, customer impacts, back out plans
Ensure notification of stakeholders
Plan maintenance with stakeholders
Track purchases to the budget
Coordinate Admin processes (SAS70, etc)
Required Qualifications
Minimum 5 years administrating production Linux and Windows systems in a 24x7 environment. Heavy emphasis on Linux
At least 2 years in a technical or team lead role
Experience with large scale SAN and NAS systems
Significant experience with systems hardware, with a emphasis on RAID setup, administration, and troubleshooting
Solid understanding of common security principles
Practical experience implementing security policies around user access, systems security, and intrusion detection
Experience with hypervisors in a production environment, preferably Xen
Experience managing an on-call rotation schedule
Significant experience in script development using Python, PERL, or shell
Familiar with administering mySQL and MS-SQL databases
Experience with Cisco Catalyst and IOS
Ability to prioritize workload and shift attention among changing priorities
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to function under pressure in a highly dynamic environment
College degree with an emphasis on technology, or equivalent
No travel required
Desired Qualifications
Proficiency with the Xen API
Expert knowledge of Linux kernel internals
