NileGuide is looking for a sharp, experienced, and capable Operations & IT Engineer to help support our online presence, our content management system, as well as other internal systems and users. Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team are a must.

NileGuide is the only travel planning website where travelers can plan their complete trip all in one place. NileGuide combines guidebook information, personalized searching for things to see and do and places to stay, integrated booking with one step price comparisons, and the ability to organize all this information into a professional quality personalized guidebook which users can print or download to their iPhone using our new ‘Guide To Go’ app.

The ideal candidate will be driven to learn, a good problem solver, and will have a history of success in a challenging, fast-paced environment working with rapidly changing demands. Strong multi-tasking skills are a key to success in this role. We are a small team and the needs change rapidly, so flexibility to deal with these changes is critical. This position will suit a self-starter who is looking to grow their skillset and responsibility.

In this position, you will work under the direction of the Director of Operations and will work closely with the software engineering and business teams to keep our systems operational and responsive while helping resolve problems and anticipate future requirements. Some internal user support will be required.

Responsibilities
• Implementation and support of datacenter Linux servers and related infrastructure
• 3rd party and internal application administration, upgrades, support, and troubleshooting
• Support of 24x7 production environments including on-call duties
• Limited internal user support as needs arise. This role _will_ include some user laptop, email, and general internal user support.
Qualifications
• Sound written and verbal communication skills are required
• IT or related degree preferred
• 3+ years of experience building and supporting Linux systems in a datacenter environment.
• 2+ years of MySQL experience, especially with respect to replication and scalability
• 2+ years of experience supporting web-based systems, ideally using Apache/ Tomcat or similar
• Strong Perl and other relevant scripting and automation skills
• Excellent troubleshooting skills
• Experience in application monitoring, especially with opensource tools
• Good understanding of TCP/IP, networking, client/server applications, HTTP, SSL, SSH, DNS, SNMP, SQL, and database management systems
• Experience with networking hardware configuration, protocols, and troubleshooting is a plus
• Basic Windows server and desktop skills are required. Mac skills are a plus.
