JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Under limited supervision, performs system administration for various clients IT-infrastructure. The Systems Administrator's primary responsibility is to provide direct support to clients in the form of desktop hardware and software support, training and education, peripheral support, server administration, and basic network troubleshooting. This is for a full-time position.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Evaluate, test, and deploy all software and hardware upgrades to servers.
Proactive monitoring of all servers, applications and services using a combination of tools to ensure high availability and SLAs.
Perform regular and on-demand system backups and recoveries.
Assist in developing, implementing, testing and maintaining server level disaster recovery plans.
Manage & troubleshoot networks, intranet & internet connectivity
Work closely with the clients to provide end-user support and issue resolution.
Rigorously create and maintain documentation for all processes and procedures.
Coordinate with the rest of the IT Team to meet the team objectives
Support Macintosh and Windows based computers including laptops and PDAs.
In conjunction with our partners, provide first level support on VMWare virtual environment hosting windows/linux servers, Hitachi SAN, tape backup rotation, and network troubleshooting including wireless support.
Monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain Cisco LAN infrastructure (switches, routers, wireless access points, cabling).
Monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain VMWare virtual infrastructure (SAN, servers, virtual machines and VMWare features, HA/DRS).
Provide end-user workstation hardware and software support, including deployment, troubleshooting, maintenance, and on-demand training in a mixed-platform, multi-function environment. Place and manage service calls as necessary.
Respond to technical requests from management.
Complete server and network maintenance work after hours and on weekends as necessary to ensure SLAs.
Regularly check email and respond to emergency requests as needed.
SCOPE OF WORK
The Systems Administrator is primarily responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of clients server and network environment. He or she must be comfortable with and adept at multitasking, exercise sound judgment in establishing priorities, regularly communicate with other members of the technology staff, work independently and effectively manage his/her time. The ability to communicate and work effectively with customers, vendors, and administrators of widely varying skills and abilities is critical.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Additionally to managing his or her time he or she should also be able to manage the Help Desk position in an effort to promptly and proactively respond to support requests.
INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS
Communications include face-to-face, phone and electronic interactions.
SPECIFIC JOB SKILLS
Experience with Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP Professional, Linux, and Macintosh OS X operating systems. Experience supporting and maintaining an operational VMWare ESX 3.0+ environment. Experience working with SAN and fibre channel technologies. Experience supporting Cisco local area network hardware. Experience with laptop support. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks successfully with strong attention to detail. Ability to work with a wide variety of people including teachers who have a wide range of skill levels and abilities. Ability to explain problems in non-technical terms. Ability to work independently, smoothly, even when under pressure with several issues needing attention. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Possess great team skills to work on group projects and other collaborative efforts. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
QUALIFICATIONS
Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field preferred (relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree).
Minimum 4-5 years experience in Systems Administration
At least 4-5 years experience with Hardware & networking
Advanced knowledge of installations, upgrades and troubleshooting of Windows Server 2003/2008 & Web application Servers. Experience with VMWare, SAN environments and Cisco networking products highly preferred.
Advanced database administration skills including backups/restores, monitoring DB performance, running SQL scripts to monitor the system and modify tables when required.
Working knowledge of web application security, understanding of vulnerabilities and countermeasures
Strong technical aptitude and ability to research & solve complex issues independently.
Ability to effectively communicate issues and resolutions to all levels of the organization
