WHO WE ARE
We are a stealth-mode startup building out a secure file transfer platform in the Cloud. The company was founded in late 2008 by industry veterans who have helped successfully build and grow Internet businesses in Silicon Valley, and we just raised our first round of Seed funding.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Were looking for a contract/freelance Amazon EC2/LAMP System Administrator to support the first commercial deployment of our Cloud application. The job will start as a part time contractor/consultant role, with the potential to grow into a full time salaried position.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Short Term Responsibilities
Managing a production LAMP server (Ubuntu/Apache/MySQL/PHP5/Tomcat)
Set up a testing server (EC2 instance) and deployment process for new releases
Set up processes for backup and failover
Set up data cleanup processes for storage
Set up some level of monitoring for the site prior to go-live
Security review/checklist prior to go-live
Manage the cutover from our prototype to our first generation production release
LongTerm Responsibilities
The EC2/LAMP System Administrator is responsible for the build-out, automation, scalability, and uptime of our operating environment (LAMP on EC2). You will work very closely with the developers to perform tasks such as software releases, database backups, and storage administration. You will also provide the tools and processes needed to manage and monitor the operations of the application.
Management of Amazon Cloud resources
Monitoring the health of the applications
Troubleshooting all operational issues
Supporting developers with server, database, and storage management
Manage capacity cushion of our systems
REQUIREMENTS
Experience managing EC2/S3 systems
Expertise managing Linux-based systems
Expertise managing MySQL databases
Expertise managing Java environments
Adept at managing build-out and maintenance of high-volume data transfer applications
NICE TO HAVES
Knowledge of programming languages such as PHP and Python
Experience with e-commerce, credit card processing, and/or billing systems
Java/Tomcat experience
Experience with MySQL
LOCATION
The company is located in Silicon Valley. Contractor/consultant role can be done virtually from anywhere in the world. For a full time salaried position, you need to be located in Silicon Valley.
COMPENSATION/HOURS
Must be available for 10-20 hrs/week (pretty flexible hours), this is a contract position
