The Yahoo! Cloud Computing group is looking for an experienced systems administrator with strong development skills. The individual in this position will spearhead the infrastructure engineering and systems operations for the Yahoo Content Serving Engine. This is the next generation serving platform currently under development.
The scope of this position will include architecture review/input, design review/input of the CSE service, responsibility for identifying and guiding operations requirements in the application, and additionally have responsibilities for operations and deployment of the service (e.g. monitoring, triage, capacity planning, on-call support, and day-to-day maintenance). Above all the successful candidate will ensure that we are delivering the most reliable and highest quality service attainable.
Job Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate would have a strong background in systems administration, automation and software development cycles.
Initial Objectives:
- Deeply understand services and update monitoring and systems configurations to enhance reliability and performance of the property
- Develop automation tools to ease ongoing operations and build processes
- Work with management to build out team and mentor others
Basic Qualifications:
- Substantial experience administering and performance-tuning Unix-based OSes, Apache, Java, MySQL, etc..
- Excellent PHP/perl and/or shell scripting skills
- Strong understanding and experience with RHEL on RHEL Virtualization, (e.g. Xen, or VMware)
- Good knowledge of release engineering tools and processes, knowledge of cvs, subversion, make, etc.
- Prior experience with 24x7 high-availability systems
- Good knowledge of TCP/IP networking
- Strong written & oral communication skills are essential
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of industry experience - BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent
