The Software Configuration / Release Engineer would recommend, support and extend build and release tools and processes for fast moving development organizations. The Engineer would also assist developers in implementing software build automation utilizing Hudson, gmake, maven, and Subversion and other Yahoo! specific technologies such as yinst, igor, and taxi.
Qualifications:
- Must know the principles of Continuous integration and how to apply them.
- Knowledge of Perl would be a must. Knowledge of PHP, Java, and C/C++ is also helpful. Knowledge of SQL and specifically Oracle and MySQL is helpful.
- Must have good knowledge of Linux and bash scripting. Must be able to debug OS issues that are encountered with application builds: disk full, file permissions issues, hung processes, etc.
- In general, good troubleshooting skills are a must.
- Must have good communication skills and have the ability to show strong leadership in communication.
- Must be able to bring groups together for the purposes of establishing uniform build and release practices as well as planning activities that span the groups such as bringing together app developers, db engineers, qa, service engineers, et. al. to make launch plans.
