Cloudmark is looking for a Spam Accuracy Software Engineer to join our engineering team in San Francisco.
Major areas of responsibility will include data mining for emerging threat variants and contributing to the design and implementation of large scale systems that quickly distinguish new types of messaging abuse from legitimate content.
Cloudmark provides messaging security services to customers around the world, including Comcast, Cox Communications, EarthLink, NEC Biglobe, Swisscom, and XS4ALL (KPN) as well as leading hosting providers and social networking companies such as MySpace. Our solutions protect more than 850 million subscribers, including over 75 percent of all major service providers in the United States and Japan.
Cloudmark is the leader in providing high accuracy, high performance spam filtering to these customers. The responsibilities of this position include not only maintaining but improving our software while responding to constantly evolving threats. As a core member of our engineering team, you'll have your finger on the pulse of global spam attacks.
Cloudmark solutions use fingerprinting algorithms, a Global Threat Network of trusted reporters around the world, and real-time analysis of traffic and content patterns to provide security intelligence and filtering.
We currently use a combination of technologies including a large MySQL databases and servers, daemons, and tools written in Perl, C, and Ruby. We recently added a Hadoop cluster to the mix. We realize that the fight against spam changes daily and are open to using the right tool for the job. We encourage new ideas and experimentation in our engineering team.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about joining the fight against messaging abuse.
Responsibilities
* Data mining and analysis to serve as input to automating the real-time detection and identification of abuse trends and anomalies in the message stream with a high degree of accuracy and few false positives.
* Writing software in Perl and C against a MySQL database.
* Writing software against a Hadoop cluster.
* Maintaining an awareness of new technologies and trends in security, keeping an eye open for new ways to stop emerging security threats in spam
Qualifications
You should:
* Have an Undergraduate or Graduate degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, engineering or a related field.
* Be very comfortable with fundamental Computer Science concepts such as algorithms, data structures, memory usage etc.
* Have a solid understanding of statistics and be able to apply that understanding to real world data.
* Have a good understanding of SQL and relational databases (ie, basic SQL query optimization, schema design, ability to work with and update a large transactional MySQL database)
* Have experience with data mining and analysis using Hadoop or similar technologies.
* Have solid experience writing software in C or Perl in a UNIX environment. (Solid experience in another scripting language such as Python with an apparent aptitude for learning Perl is also acceptable, particularly if you’ve written statistical data processing type scripts in the other languages.)
* Be very comfortable writing regular expressions.
* Enjoy developing software with a security mindset in an environment with an active adversary.
* Be able to think clearly under pressure.
Optional:
* Experience in the security industry.
* Experience writing email related software.
