Aardvark (www.vark.com) was founded in 2007 by top engineers and entrepreneurs from Google, Yahoo, and other major Valley tech companies. Their goal is to provide access to the knowledge, wisdom, and experience of your extended network in realtime.
With Aardvark, there’s nothing to download or install: you just send Aardvark a question through a channel you already use (IM, email, Twitter, etc.) -- like you do when talking to a friend. Aardvark figures out who might be able to answer, and asks on your behalf, getting you answers from your network within minutes.
We’ve been written about in The New York Times, BusinessWeek, Forbes, and Wired and continue to lead in the Social Search space. We are well funded by August Capital and are proud to have over a dozen well-known technology leaders as individual investors – including Marc Andreesen, Deep Nishar, Sean Fanning, Barney Pell, Jeff Hammerbacher and others.
Software Engineer, Cloud Computing
Aardvark is looking for a Software Engineer, Cloud Computing to help take our deployment process and release environment to the next level. Our current agile methodology and our use of Capistrano, TeamCity, and custom Rails tools enable the engineering team to release multiple times per week; our goal is to allow everyone to deploy continuously, with higher confidence and less effort. Taking full advantage of existing cloud infrastructure is important, so experience managing deployments in EC2 or similar hosted cluster environment is required. Interest and facility with web services and the ability to program in Ruby or Python is also central to working with our dozen senior developers.
Required skills:
-
Rock-solid networking, web, and Unix fundamentals
-
Expertise in cloud infrastructure deployment and management, ideally EC2
-
Experience with build and release management processes
-
Knowledge of MySQL database administration
-
Experience with monitoring and measurement tools
- Proficient in Ruby or Python
Pluses:
-
Experience in an agile development environment
-
Experience with unit testing and automated QA
-
Experience with Hadoop, MapReduce, and/or large data set management
-
History of side projects and interest in social media and distributed computing
-
Obsession with new technologies and open source tools
-
Detail-oriented and experimental
